We could not have been more pleased with the
Hotel Santa Maria from the helpfulness of the
staff to the peaceful accomodations. We would
definitely stay here again and would definitely
recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful,
comfortable stay in Rome. Our only complaint was
that we could not access the wi-fi from our room,
but then we were there for vacation and that
guaranteed we didn't end up working.

We finished up our Italian honeymoon with 3
nights at Hotel Santa Maria. We could not have
made a better choice. Trastevere is a great
location, walking distance to everything in Rome,
but with more of a neighborhood feel. When we
were having trouble finding the hotel (thanks to
our lazy and clueless cab driver), a random
student emerged from her front door and pointed
us in the right direction. This hotel is truly
like an oasis in the bustle of Rome. On two of
our evenings there, we enjoyed their free light
buffet and relaxed in the courtyard with a drink
- a lovely way to start an evening. The staff
were as friendly as anyone we met in Italy. They
made two great recommendations for our dinners
in Trastevere and arranged a cab to the airport
for us (this driver knew the way). Our room
itself was great, and breakfast was good too...
I can't think of any negatives about Hotel Santa
Maria!

Entrance signWe stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria
for 4 nights this October. As soon as we arrived
we knew that we made a wise choice (thanks Trip
Advisor). We arrived early after an overnight
flight and we greeted warmly, the room was ready
for us, and we were offered breakfast. The rooms
are very nice and clean and cozy, with a great
bathroom. The staff members were always helpful
and very pleasant, providing great
recommendations for restaurants and helping us
with transportation.
Breakfast, included in price, was varied and
tasty. Great cappaccinos too!! We also really
loved the daily evening happy hour, also free,
with delicious treats.
The courtyard is lovely, although we didn't get
to use it much because of the rainy weather.
Santa Maria Hotel is situated in a wonderful
vibrant neighborhood, with tons of shops,
restaurants, and the beautiful Santa Maria in
Trastevere church and piazza literally right
around the corner. If you are a walker, you can
easily get into the city from the hotel with a
nice walk over Isle Tiberina.
We HIGHLY recommend this charming little place,
and we will definitely stay here next time we
are lucky enough to return to Rome.

We recently made our first trip to Rome and
stayed for 5 nights. I chose this hotel based on
the good reviews on Tripadvisor - and couldn't
have made a better choice. Stepping through the
gates was like stepping outside of the city into
a tranquil oasis. The staff were very friendly
and helpful and the room was nice and very clean.
They serve a lovely breakfast and have great
cappucino. The location is also excellent; within
walking distance of many attractions and
convenient access to other modes of transport,
shops and restaurants. The charming church of
'Santa Maria in Trastevere' is situated just
around the corner and the atmosphere in the
surrounding area - especially at night - is
amazing. Despite having noisy people in the room
next to us on two of the nights, we still had a
great stay at this hotel. Rome is a city that
casts a spell on you - and I definitely intend
to return and stay at Hotel Santa Maria again.

I had originally booked another hotel in Rome,
however, due to their hot water system breaking
(one of the many things that went wrong on our
trip to Europe), they booked us into Santa
Maria. At first I was a bit worried as the
buildings around the hotel were covered with
graffitti, however, we (my teenage son and
myself) were very happy with this hotel. The
service was great, the rooms were extremely
clean and the hotel itself was beautiful. The
area was full of narrow, cobblestone streets
with many little cafes and bars to choose from.
This was our first trip to Rome and we would
definately return and stay at Santa Maria.

Area surrounding courtyard
On my first trip to Italy we selected the Hotel
Santa Maria in Trastevere based on Trip Advisor
reviews. It was a perfect choice for so many
reasons. It is a really lovely hotel. It
provided a wonderful breakfast with many
delicious selections, best hotel coffee in all
of Italy. We packed a lot of sites into four
ambitious days and it was convenient to walk to
many locations. Also, it was easy to catch buses,
trains, the metro and cabs. The area around the
hotel is fascinating, full of historic churches,
interesting shops, restaurants, gelato and bars.
The streets are quite lively during the day and
night, great people watching from many outdoor
restaurants. There was a concert in the Piazza
on Saturday and Sunday and that was quite fun.
We never wished we had a car. It’s location set
back from the street provided quiet and
tranquility after a very busy day. We enjoyed
the snacks in the evening and the cash bar. The
room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable,
very good water pressure and very clean. We
stayed in the room closest to the kitchen and
that was a bit noisy on the night we kept the
windows open. When the windows were closed there
was no problem. Everyone at the desk was most
helpful with maps and information. After touring
more of Italy we stayed in another part of Rome
before we caught our flight and it just wasn’t
the same.

This was the second time that we stayed at Hotel
Santa Maria. The second time was as nice as the
first. We love to stay there because of the
area. Trestevere is perfect if you want to
experience Rome but be away from the hustle and
bustle. We spend two nights at the hotel (Saturday
and Sunday) post-cruise. We will probably say
there again in the future. One word of advice -
the nights were cool so we left our window open
the first night. Don't leave your window open if
you want to experience the smell of cat urine
and the noise from people leaving at 5:30am. The
second night we closed the window and slept much
better.

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Hotel
Santa Maria! Wonderful location, wonderful
staff, wonderful atmosphere. The interior
courtyard is beautiful and a fine place to
relax, read a book, sip a beverage, or enjoy
breakfast. The accommodations for the three of
us in our group were ideal. We took advantage of
the loaner bicycles of Hotel Santa Maria to
cycle over to the Circus Maximus in the evening
and were treated to picturesque views of the
lights along the Tiber River on our return. This
is just the place from which to venture out to
experience Rome!

We drove to Rome with Friends on a Car Rally
from England and had booked the Residence Santa
Maria for our nights stay in the City. The
approach was interesting to say the least
driving along narrow twisting streets in the
Trastevere District. We found the Hotel Santa
Maria which was not the Hotel we had booked. It
was so nice that we let another car in our rally
have our booked room there and took a more
expensive room at the Hotel Santa Maria (200
euros for 3). The staff could not have been more
helpful. The Courtyard was a wonderful place to
relax, Free pre dinner snacks were provided and
we ate our breakfast under orange trees in the
Courtyard. Parking was available in a garage
next door for 25 Euros per night. The area was
busy well after midnight but the hotel being in
its own courtyard could not have been more
peaceful. The only negative to Rome and this
area was the dreadful amount of graffitti to be
seen. We enjoyed the exciting driving in Rome
and look forward to a longer visit next time

The Hotel Santa Maria,Trastevere will not
disappoint . Trastevere is a fantastic base for
exploring all the main tourist attractions of
Rome which are all within reasonable walking
distance of the hotel. A street map is essential
as the hotel is hidden away in a small side
street which can be difficult to locate. The
hotel is secured by a set of high iron gates
with 24 hour access. Free snacks are provided
during the early evening and an excellent
breakfast choice is available in the covered
courtyard. The rooms are a good size by Rome
standards equipped with a comfortable bed and
excellent en-suite facilities. One
disappointment was the lack of any room
tea/coffee making equipment.
Light sleepers are advised to travel with
earplugs because the nearby church and clock
bells ring during the night.. Restaurants
recommended by the hotel staff were excellent
and very good value. The hotel taxi service to
and from the hotel is recommended for price and
service. I would highly recommend the Hotel
Santa Maria for the tranquillity, location ,
service and for the opportunity to experience
the "real" Rome.

We stayed here for two nights prior to leaving
for a cruise. We loved the courtyard where we
could sit and have a meal, a cocktail or
pleasant conversation. The wine bar had free
appetizers each night and the bar tender was a
lot of fun. They were happy to provide lots of
ice which we didn't get in other places. The
breakfasts were very good. Internet only in the
breakfast room area. We were able to get it out
in the courtyard or our room. Lots of good cafes
close by, a taxi stand within walking distance(or
have one called for a couple more euros). The
staff were helpful and pleasant. All in all, a
great start to our vacation. You do have to be
able to pull your luggage as it is in an alley
that many taxis cannot get into.

We were delighted with Hotel Santa Maria and
would highly recommend it. It is located in the
beautiful Trastevere area of Rome, just across
the Ponte Sisto foot bridge and close to all the
major sites. We loved seeing the sites of Rome
and then escaping from the hordes of tourists
back to our lovely quiet hotel. It was
unbearably hot in Rome while we were there
(August 2009), so we really appreciated the
orange tree lined courtyard that always seemed
to have a lovely breeze. Trastevere is very
quiet during the day but comes alive at night
and there are dozens of excellent retaurants to
enjoy, all within walking distance. The hotel
staff did a wonderful job of recommending
restaurants patronized by the locals and we
enjoyed some fabulous meals. We loved the
ambience of Trastevere....walking around the
streets is a feast for the eyes. I would highly
recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a
quiet, clean, low key hotel with charm and
character.

Having never been to Rome before we were unsure
of which part of the City to stay in and since
the reviews for Travestere and this hotel were
all good, we decided to book up. Overall, we
were happy with the choice made. The hotel is
beautiful - very clean, tidy and fresh looking.
Our room was on the small side but as with the
whole hotel, looked new, clean and well finished.
Great shower, flat panel TV, air-conditioning.
No tea or coffee making facilities was the only
negative point. The hotel gardens are lovely for
relaxing in with a drink - under the cover of
orange trees. The hotel is tucked away in the
back streets of Travestere and without the hotel
organised taxi we would never have found it.
Travestere is good for restaurants at reasonable
prices but as an area, appears a little run down
with graffiti and untidy buildings. We walked
around Rome, visiting most of the attractions -
the hotel is about 30 mins walk from the
Collosseum, about 45 minutes from Trevi Fountain.
There is no Metro station in Travestere. Overall,
a very enjoyable weekend in a great hotel that
is tucked away in the quieter part of town.
Perfect if you don't mind walking or getting a
taxi into central Rome. I think that if we
return to Rome, we will probably go for a hotel
nearer the Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps.

My wife and I began our trip to Europe in August
2009 with four nights at the Hotel Santa Maria
in Trastevere, Rome, and could not have been
happier with our choice. We booked a car through
the hotel to pick us up a Fiumicino, and would
recommend this highly, as for first-timers the
hotel would be difficult to find.
The location in Trastevere was good for us, as
we love to walk. We were no more than a
five-minute walk from the Tiber, and a ten to
fifteen minute walk to the Campo de Fiori. The
neighborhood is packed with restaurants, and the
hotel's recommendations were helpful and good.
The room was small, but very attractively
appointed and absolutely spotless. The bathroom
was equally clean, and included a tub.
While Trastevere is a very active neighborhood
in the evening, the hotel was unfailingly quiet.
Indeed, the courtyard seemed absolutely tranquil,
befitting the place's former life as a convent.
Summer of '09 was perhaps the hottest on record
in Rome, and I'm happy to say that the air
conditioner in our room worked quietly and well.
The breakfast buffet was simply the best I've
ever encountered. It included two kinds of melon
as well as other whole, fresh fruits,
well-prepared scrambled eggs, a numbert of
Italian cold cuts and cheeses, breakfast cereals,
many different types of bread, yoghurts, and
coffee made to order.
Unless there is an extremely compelling reason
for us to be in another part of town, my wife
and I will always return to this hotel when we
return to Rome.

Great location, very clean, friendly staff. Our
group was actually made up of two couples. All 4
of us stayed in the Mansard Suite, which has 1
double bed, 2 single beds and 2 bathrooms. At
330 Euro/night for the 4 of us, you couldn't
beat the price for that location. The room
worked out great and I would highly recommend it
for families staying in Rome. The breakfast was
great but the bar closesly rather early (after
happy hour) and the hotel staff all go home
about 8pm, save one person at the front desk. I
do have to warn that no taxi drivers know where
this hotel is. The best we could do was to get
dropped off at the nearby Piazza Santa Maria
Trastevere (which everyone does knows) and walk
the 5 minutes back to the hotel. This was no big
deal except when we first arrived and had to
carry our luggage from the piazza back to the
hotel because even the airport limo I had
arranged didn't know exactly where the hotel was.
The neighborhood is wonderful with some great
restaurants just around the corner from the
hotel and lots of cafes and shops to see. We
were able to walk from the this hotel to all of
the major attraction however some of those walks
were quite long. All in all I thought this hotel
